{Release Day Blitz and Review} War

Title: War
Author: Isabel Lucero
 Release Date: March 16, 2015

Synopsis

My father was the leader of a protection racket; a criminal group that uses violence to ensure our clients won’t be harmed or robbed, and that their businesses will remain protected. What we do isn’t legal, but it’s the way we’ve lived for many years now.

Memphis Reed—my father—was formidable. He was a man people both respected and feared. He taught me everything he knew, and when he died I was left in charge.

Before his death, a battle was brewing on the streets. Lies were told, deceptions were made, and people were killed. People we thought we knew changed, relationships and friendships were torn apart, and loyalties were questioned. After his death, a full on war is raging, and Roman Rios—a man we now know we can’t trust—wants to move in on our business.

With me now being the leader of nine men, it’s up to me to protect them from Roman and his own crew of ruthless criminals. I’ll do whatever’s necessary to keep my business my own and protect everything my father worked for. Even if I have to go up against Xavier Delgado. Roman’s number two. A man with no heart and a black soul. A man Roman trained to be as vicious and cold-blooded as he is. A man who once upon a time I thought I was in love with.

Yes, I’m a she. My name is Chevelley Reed, and all’s fair in love and war.

Review:

War title was just that, war. Everyone was at…wait for it….WAR. The story was about two mob organizations (but more like street thugs) and within one of the organizations, the Capitan is a woman, who prefers to go by “C” when her real name is Chevelley. He dangerously sexy lead is Xavier (X) is on the other mobs team but there is something about how he is with “C” that makes me think about…well you will have to read it to see.

Quote I liked from C:

Chevelley about X: “They always said the devil was handsome.”

I liked the idea. He is bad but he wants her, she is bad and she wants him, but in theory they cannot be together so it is kind of like the Montague’s and the Capulet’s.  The book had me and then it didn’t and then it did and then it didn’t. All the great parts of the book I was in awe and at the edge of my seat.
The sex was mild. I kind of wanted it to be rawer in the bedroom. Don’t get me wrong there was some but, I wanted more. What can I say; I am a greedy girl.

C is not as strong as I wanted her to be. She runs an organization like a democracy and it is a well organize mess. She lets everyone have input and seems to have feels, I am shivering because I wanted her to be kick ass all the time and not just when she was at War.

This book has sweet, hard, foul-mouth men and women who like drama, fighting, blood and to love. If you like Carter Reed by Tijan or Ruthless People series by J.J. McAvoy, you will enjoy this mob worthy story.

Happy reading.

Fake it

Fake It by Jennifer Chance
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Anna needs a man, in more than one way, and she needs one bad. Anna was dating a guy, he fits her criteria of her ideal guy; tall, successful, powerful, and business oriented. Except this guy…dumps her and she is all alone. Hence the need for a man. So she casually creates this fictional guy and now she has to take, said guy, to her best friends wedding. Thus the reason, #2 for needing a man more than one-way. So Anna is set on meeting a man, any man, that can meet her fictional guys standards, so when she attends the wedding she can show her ex, whose also her boss, LOL, and her best friend that she is not worthless and manless.

How should a woman put up her ideal man? Me, I would set up an EHarmony account but no, Anna had to be difficult and she met one at a bar. Not purposely, see Jack, the guy she drools over in her daydreams and at night, hits on her and makes himself available for this fictional boyfriend role.

I was not expecting detailed descriptions of their coitus in this book, so with that here I go.

I enjoyed the characters in this book a lot. I like the conversation and interactions with each other. Each character was built soundly from beginning to end. I also enjoyed how this book could be a standalone and you would not have had to read book one in this series.

Anna is uptight and needs to get some in my opinion. It is evident in the story that sex should be on the table for this ruse.
She has this ridge thought process of work, her life, and the man that should be in it. Even fictional.

Jake is born to be wild. He is his own person. Self made man. He has his eyes on Anna. He has had an attraction to her since he became her neighbor.

I like the ups and downs of this story and how well the story just flows. There were spots in the book where I was just cracking up. All I could think of was how this is the best first date ever.

The author gets straight to the point with this couple all we [reader] have to do is step back and see if this relationship will work.

Happy reading.

HOLD ON TIGHT By Serena Bell - Blog Tour & Giveaway

A Loveswept Contemporary Romance
On Sale June 17, 2014

In Serena Bell’s heartwarming novel, a young mother and a battle-scarred veteran must decide if they can rekindle the sparks they once shared.

Fighting for his country gave Jake Taylor’s life shape and meaning. Now as an injured war hero he struggles to find purpose, until he runs into the gorgeous woman he dated briefly—and disastrously—before being deployed eight years ago. Turns out Jake doesn’t just need to figure out how to be a civilian . . . he also needs to learn how to be a dad.

Eighteen, pregnant, and totally lost, Mira Shipley couldn’t track down the soldier who fathered her child, so she put college on hold and focused on making a good life for her son. Now she’s determined to be something more than Sam’s mom, her parents’ daughter, or Jake’s girl—as hot as she finds her old flame’s take-charge attitude in and out of bed. Soon Mira and Jake realize that their passion didn’t disappear when Sam was conceived—and that instead of running away, sometimes it’s better to hold on tight.

Hard Time by Cara McKenna

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

It’s not you [the book]. It’s me.

I read, I searched and I did not find the passion or feelings that I had found/read in this authors past books. I know that this is a different book but it is by the same author so I was looking for smut, filth, and orgasms the get me a little wiggly in my seat and want to try at home. What I got was sweet, patience, and two characters making love.

Come on…he is an ex-con who hasn’t had sex in years.

And she is a librarian…Come on… she is all sweet and nice but where are all the clichés, glasses and taking hair down and waving it back and forth to entice him. Really, I wanted her to be a little (kinky/freaky) with her wants in this book.

Okay, now I have to say that the author gave me one time it got spicy (with the mirror) but that was it.

They meet in prison, he has not had sex. She is coming from a bad relationship and is horny. The story is there; well my smutty ideas, it is there.

For the story in general, it was good. The characters all flowed well. The temperament of the characters, again good. This is why I gave it three stars, but with this author, this book, this storyline, all I thought about was some very wiggly (may try you later scenes) that I did not get.

This review is short and sweet because, it is easy for me to get carried away and write about stuff that you will really enjoy in this book and though I like spoilers, I don’t give them. (Unless you ask for it!)

Well as always, Happy Reading.

I received this ARC by NetGalley for an honest review.

Just One Night

By Lauren Layne
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Synopsis:

Riley McKenna knows sex—good sex, bad sex, kinky sex. Her articles in Stiletto magazine are the publication’s most scandalous—and the most read. But when Stiletto’s fiftieth anniversary issue requires her column to get a lot more personal, Riley is forced to confront a long-hidden secret: Her own sexual experience is limited to one awkward college encounter. Now Riley is about to call in the favor of a lifetime from the one man who’s always held her heart.

Sam Compton knows two things about Riley McKenna: She’s the only woman for him. But as his best friend’s little sister, she’s also completely off-limits. Sam shouldn’t even consider her proposition: to have a one-night stand in the name of research. But the thought of another man putting his hands on Riley is more than Sam can handle, and soon he’s agreeing to one night with New York’s resident sexpot. But Riley’s full of surprises, and what starts as “one time only” soon becomes “just one more time.” And then one more. And before they know it, Riley and Sam learn firsthand that when it comes to love, there’s no such thing as just one night.

My Review:
I was recently looking for a book that could satisfy my needs but also be on a sweet side. I know, I know, I have odd needs for booking.

So I was gifted an advance reading of Just One Night. So to begin the cover is nice. And I can honestly say that pink is not a color that is often present on most book covers but with this being a continuation in the series of Sex, Love & Stiletto, I think this is fitting.

This book is about strong women who want their man. Women who will fit, plan, and be overly creative to get their man.

Riley McKenna wants her man and bad. She has wanted him for years, 10 to be exact. He is apart of the family and her brothers best friend. Instead of seeing him ever so often, she sees him weekly for family dinner. And she is forced to engage in conversations about his love interest and his life absent her. Sam Compton.

Riley's takes a chance that most women are to terrified to take. She opens herself up to a man that she knows wants her. Sam is stubborn and scared and won't take that first step with Riley.

Well sometimes you have to tempt those you want and you have to take a chance. Riley propositions Sam. Sam wants Riley and once he accepts the proposition he can't get enough of her. She challenges him. She is good for him. She makes him a better man, but Sam must change to be the man Riley needs. Can he, is the question?

This book is a stand-alone and does not have a cliffhanger. The ending is sweet but I am so extremely curious to know what more could happen with Riley. I mean, there has to be another book coming and I believe it will be about Emma. Similar to the series I hope that it will give me some more information on Riley and Sam and the beautiful women who dominate the city and the magazine Stiletto.

I truly enjoyed the strength of the women in this story. I have not read the entire series, but I was able to follow along with the other characters in the story.

This is a true Romance. Not much steam (sex scenes are quick and not in detail).

If you like Sex and the City (think Charlotte's sex life (not ever described in full detail) and How to lose a guy in ten days, this is the series for you.
