Review:

War title was just that, war. Everyone was at…wait for it….WAR. The story was about two mob organizations (but more like street thugs) and within one of the organizations, the Capitan is a woman, who prefers to go by “C” when her real name is Chevelley. He dangerously sexy lead is Xavier (X) is on the other mobs team but there is something about how he is with “C” that makes me think about…well you will have to read it to see.

Quote I liked from C:

Chevelley about X: “They always said the devil was handsome.”

I liked the idea. He is bad but he wants her, she is bad and she wants him, but in theory they cannot be together so it is kind of like the Montague’s and the Capulet’s.  The book had me and then it didn’t and then it did and then it didn’t. All the great parts of the book I was in awe and at the edge of my seat.

The sex was mild. I kind of wanted it to be rawer in the bedroom. Don’t get me wrong there was some but, I wanted more. What can I say; I am a greedy girl.

C is not as strong as I wanted her to be. She runs an organization like a democracy and it is a well organize mess. She lets everyone have input and seems to have feels, I am shivering because I wanted her to be kick ass all the time and not just when she was at War.

This book has sweet, hard, foul-mouth men and women who like drama, fighting, blood and to love. If you like Carter Reed by Tijan or Ruthless People series by J.J. McAvoy, you will enjoy this mob worthy story.

Author Bio

Mandy Lou Dowson was born and raised in a small town in Ireland, in 1983, and at this stage in life, she's pretty sure the town won't let her leave. Family is a huge deal to Mandy. She has three wonderful children (most of the time), and two Siberian Huskies who are each as naughty as the other – in fact, she's sure they egg each other on in silly cartoon voices when nobody is looking.

(Review) Throb

ARC provided for honest review.

I am about the say the most blasphemous thing ever, I do not watch Survivor or The Bachelor/Bachelorette. I know that this is problem a shocker for most people, as the entire world problem has seen it at some time in their life. Me, I am not one of them.

That being said. Throb was a new kind of contemporary for me. I liked the concept, the drama, and the dominant males. Vi keep me interested. The twist, plot thicker, was nice. Overall the book had a good flow to it.

I am not a contemporary girl, so there were some struggles for me. I was able to get pass them because I liked the story and the difficult decisions people have to make for love.

I was informed recently that there will be a continuation with their series with some of the characters from book one. Well, if that is true, congrats to the author. If I could say one person I would like to see more of in this series it would be Sadie. She’s a sassy lady.

{ARC Review} Last Call by Alice Clayton

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

It is a bittersweet end to the Cocktail series. I have had some mixed feelings about the ending of it all. I read Wallbanger**FANTASTIC** three years ago. Then I read Last Call. I am read this book and I have to say that I did not feel connection with Last Call. It just was not a book I wanted to read over and over again, like Wallbanger.

Ms. Clayton had some funny lines and of course I loved all things Carolyn and Simon had to say or any scene (all) that they were in.

I have thought about this feeling I am having about this book and I think, this could be my fault. I did not read Rusty Nail and because of that some information could have been lost that I would have appreciated if I had read the book. I was not lost in translation, but I just was not in it, you know.

I met this wonderful non-orthodox couple who three years, thought they had nothing in common except hooking up old friends with new friends, an uncommon six degrees of separation with Carolyn’s boss’ husband and baked goods.

Three years ago, I was falling out of my chair at the bookstore laughing my ass off.
About a month ago when I read this, I was totally laughing once again, because Clayton can tell a great story. I was just bummed that I just didn’t connect like I did with Wallbanger.

Just like a drink I am not 100% in love with at the bar, I finished it and cherished what I learned about it, not to drink it again or maybe add a chaser. This chaser would be Rusty Nail. I think I will give Last Call another chance by reading the predecessor to its fade to black.

I can say this: I loved the shower scene and the defining statement that is not a question. I loved how all the characters from her books past, even our Gorgeous redhead, was discussed or present. I loved the new beginnings and that Clive once again brought up the rear. What I loved most of all was that this book was about new discoveries and how we have to grow to get to what we want in life.
