Chasing Luck-Review

Chasing Luck (Serendipity, #1)Chasing Luck by Brinda Berry
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Chasing Luck was a new kind of romance for me. It was not only about love but rebuilding and suspense. This book had the most heartbreaking opening I have read in a romance novel. The idea of one person being the lone survivor of a terrorist attack and then dealing with this survival daily is unfathomable.

Malerie is sent to leave with her uncle after her mother’s death and with this placement she learns to be more closed off, as her uncle (doesn’t intend to) but allows her to be a bit of a recluse. Her reclusiveness leads her to her love of music, knowledge, and technology. Malerie is able to have interactions in the world but be distant. Sadly, she is running from her past, but unbeknownst to her it is leading her to her future.

Ace is a man running from his past. To deal with his past he builds a secure life for others. He ideally has a hero’s complex. He wants to save people because in his past he could not save some.

She needs saving. He needs saving. A situation brings them together but it heal two people who need help saving each other.

The author keep the action moving at all times. There was never a dull moment. I ached for Malerie. She was literally Chasing her Luck, she just needs a win. To be in control and at ease with past events. And Ace was Chasing his Luck but it is Malerie. She is his Luck. She is want will bring him to be the man he can be.

The characters were exceptional. They were well developed and each served a defining purpose in the story that made me enjoy the development even more.

Hope you find your Luck in this book.

Happy Reading.

Review

Amity got me. That story, WOW. There were several WTF moments. This book is powerfully, unfiltered, raw story about two lonely souls connected by physical attraction, need, and emotion.

Renee’s (Ren) mother has passed away and she feels alone in the world. Before her mother died she lets Ren know were her father was at. Ren’s father left her when she was young to start a new family.
With Ren having no one left in the world and now see the man who did want her Ren, needs something to belong to.

Ren’s father owns a gym and permits Ren to stay on the guys in a room that she describes as a closet. “Poor girl.” Ren is tough and does not want to be viewed as the poor girl.
The gym has many classes to offer and one of them is the basic training for MMA. Ren begins to train and becomes very good.

Okay, so we have our Heroine. Where is out Hero?

Our Hero is Ash, MMA protégé. He has been AMA for a while and one day just pops back up. When he sees Ren he wants her (in his bed, on her knees, on the mat (wink, wink) but, he keeps his distance. Ash, similar to Ren, wants to belong to something, someone. Ash has nothing and no one, except for Coach (Ren’s father) and The Beat (the gym). No he wants more in his life and that more will be Ren.

The interactions with one another are complicated, just as their relationship (if on FB, this is what their status would be).

The storyline is AWESOME and I can’t wait to read more from this series.

The supporting cast; I think every great story needs a fab-supporting cast and this book has it. The good vs. evil is definite in this story.

The sex is good. It is not PORN city but there are some moments where you’ll have some tingling feelings down below. You will “wiggly, wiggly, wiggly and then the whisper in the back ground. You know Jason Derulo’s song.

To conclude, short and sweet Great book. Need book two now.

Excerpt

My fist slammed into the heavy leather bag, the impact jolting up my arm and absorbing into my torso.
The only light was from the back row of fluorescents I’d switched on over the ring. It was dark, murky and helped me pretend I was someplace else. The drama from the daylight hours was gone and it was just me and the darkness. Exactly the way I liked it.
I began another set of punches, hair sticking to the sweat beading across the back of my neck. Structure. This was the only thing that was predictable in my life and I needed predictable.
Stance. Guard. Punch. Guard. Repeat.
There was a loud cough behind me and I spun on my heel, heart thumping in my chest, and my gaze collided with Ash’s.
“Fuck,” I exclaimed, holding a hand over my heart. “Don’t fucking do that, Ash.” Typical. The creeper was being all creeper again.
“What are you doing?” He stared at me, his gaze hovering a little too long on my bare midriff.
I steadied the bag with one hand, taking deep breaths. “What does it look like?”
“I’ve never seen…” He trailed off and I wondered if I’d finally made the Golden Boy lost for words.
I turned my back so I didn’t have to look at him. “What? A woman in a sports bra? Highly doubt it.” I rolled my eyes and wiped my forehead with the back of my arm. Even though I couldn’t see, I felt his gaze burning into my skin and I suppressed the urge to squeeze my thighs together. Infuriating, self-absorbed, arrogant…

Irons

Irons (The Norfolk Series, #1)Irons by M.J. Fields
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Jaxson (Jax) Irons was born and bred to be a military man. Jax is a helicopter pilot for the US Navy.

Jax and William Cruz, are best friends. They attended the academy together and flown next to each other for years. They shared the same views of life and are both ambitious.

“…swore the same oath…I would fight, protect, and put my country’s safety and security above my own for the greater good.”

That line in the book is so hot!

The book opens with Jax dealing with the lost of his best friend Will. Jax is having a difficult time dealing with losing Will. Due to Jax's grieving and his behaviors (fighting), Jax’s commanding officer tells him that after Will’s funeral, he is being reassigned South. This really affects Jax because he just lost Will and now he will also lose a family that has been more of a family then his own.

“Today I said my last goodbye to my best friend and now I was going to do the same to a family that had been in my life for six years. A family that wasn’t the same as mine.”

Francesca (Frankie) is Will’s little sister. She was very close to her brother. He was her rock. Frankie is taking his death very hard. Losing Will, Frankie loses a peace of herself. She believes she can deal as long as Jax is in the picture. When she finds out that Jax is leaving, is difficult for her. Frankie has loved Jax since the first day she met him.

“You come to say goodbye? Well, don’t bother. I’ve said enough goodbyes today.”

As a bold move on Frankie, she kisses Jax before he leaves. Jax is taken back by this but Frankie is taking a chance.

“Will isn’t the only one here who loves you Jax.”
“Okay, look…”
“No, you look. I’m eighteen now and graduating. I’ve wanted to kiss you since I was twelve years old. You were my first crush Jax.”

Three years passes and Jax finally comes back from the South and Frankie is in college. By happenstance they run into one another. Their reunion is brief but it ignites something in both of them.

I was intrigued by this entire story. This book is not only about the romance I want Jax and Frankie to have but also about how their romance could affect those around them. The sex in this book is hot; M. J. Fields knows how to detail those scenes. This is my first book with Fields and I found that I enjoyed her writing and how she weaved the supporting characters and the development of the story line so intricately. I was not expecting the suspense part of the book. Mysteries are hit or miss with me but this storyline has all the makings of a great movie. It is that detailed that I could see the storyboards in my head (New Line, get the deal)!

If you like Scandal with a little Army Wives, I think you will enjoy this book.
This story really shows how we can love a person who had been out closes but may not have know this. Both Jax and Frankie are still dealing with the death of Will, and need one another to heal.

I love that Fields gave us a strong military alpha man. Someone who not only defends his country but also the women he cares for. That was something that I needed in book.
At the end of the book, I was looking for more, craved it. I am looking for more books in this series.

Happy reading.

Twisted Together - Excerpt

I shook my head. I didn’t understand. All I understood was his voice had the power to make me come. The deep tenor vibrated through my heart, sending tiny orgasms exploding in my veins.

I needed to be touched. I needed to be kissed.

Kiss him. Let him know.

Launching upright, I splashed a wave over the tub. Q jerked back, but wasn’t fast enough. Wrapping my arms around his neck, I dragged him down toward me. His hand slipped on the rim, plunging his arms into the water, landing on either side of my body.

His mouth opened to curse, but I swallowed whatever he said. My lips stole his, and the moment I tasted him, I went a little mad.

My core squeezed with delirium, demanding to be filled. My eyes rolled back at the sheer bliss of kissing.

He tasted like freedom and violence and pain.

Esclave…wait…” Q tried to speak, but he only gave me the opportunity to slink my tongue into his mouth. Joy bounced and fizzed in my heart, demanding more.

I moaned, dragging him closer. My hands dug into his hair, tugging with sharp-laced desire. His mouth opened, either in shock or passion—I didn’t hesitate. I thrust my tongue deeper into his mouth, willingly drowning myself in all things Q.

Indulging in Irelyn

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I recently read Indulging in Irelyn and my emotions have been all over the place. When I read the very last word in this book I was upset and realized this emotion was present because I needed more from this author. I wanted this book to be like War and Peace, thousands of pages. I found this book to be breathtakingly / orgasmic. The story is built on kismet, faith, and second chances. It’s a love story with a twist.

I must say that the descriptions the author gives about Zolten, well one, the name sounds like a God. And he is described as one. Two: When I reread the description of him she honest describes him to be so fine that he put Tom Brady to shame and Tom Brady is a beautiful man. Three: The description of the mans bedroom antic’s.
Fanning myself.
We are introduced to the characters in past and present scenes through the book. They are easy to follow and the all the reader to have a clear understanding. The funny thing is, that the author gave us the information we needed, instead of making a book 0.50 that only had the past in it. You readers know what I mean. We literally have all the information of the past, in this first book.
So happy and so worth the read.
Zolten is/was a professional football player who was injured while playing a major game in his NFL career. His injury prevents him from ever playing the sport that he loves again. Zolten leaves the sport and the state of Arizona following the injury and attends law school, because not only is he hot, he is smart.
Oh my!
Once he has his degree and has gained experience in his field he is given the opportunity to transition back to Arizona and where he will begin working for a prestigious law firm. He is excited about his move and hopes to make this a permanent place.

Zolten is a sexual man. He has a needs that must be filled.  Zolten  gives a candid description of his interludes with women. He never takes a women to his home. They only make it to his shagging place. He is domineering and once he has tied you up and ensures both parties have been pleasured, and then he kicks you out.
Alpha male, domineering, and mild BSDM.
Irelyn is the women of his dreams. Irelyn feels connected to Zolten. Their relationship is established in a short amount of time and is amazing. The scenes between Irelyn and Zolten are very passionate and naughty.

This books coupling was fantastic.
I really like the Zolten/Irelyn story. I especially enjoyed how the author wrote the chapters individually. She gave the reader the Point Of View of Zolten and Irelyn.  Each chapter is written to allow each person to pick up from a previous scene/chapter, basically a continuation of how the characters felt about the previous events. As the reader we are given the different perspectives of each main character. We are looking through the window and see how they are falling in love. But just like real life, real life gets in the way.
I am truly rooting for this love / connection they have.

Happy reading!
